The margarita is such a popular cocktail that people really like to take ownership of the drink. There are so many origin stories that it’s hard to know where this cocktail truly came from, but we quite like this little ditty…
In 1938 Carlos “Danny” Herrera was at his restaurant Rancho La Gloria, California, when a customer came in with a request for a bespoke cocktail. It was former Ziegfeld dancer Marjorie King – and it turns out she was allergic to many spirits, but not to tequila.
Yeah… we like that excuse too.
- 1 1/2oz grapefruit juice
- 1/2oz lime juice
- 2oz Reposado Tequila
- 1/2oz Triple Sec
- dash of agave
Take your shaker glass, add your grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila, cointreau, and a dash of agave. Throw in some ice and shake for 20 seconds to really mix up all those elements.
Don’t even strain – pour directly into your rocks glass.
For your garnish, take a wedge of grapefruit or orange, and poke a hole in the zest with a cocktail stick. Poke your favorite flower into the hole, and rest on the edge of your glass.
